Aim and Scope

Agriculture, as one of the most important sectors of the Iranian economy, employs a quarter of the workforce, accounts for a third of non-oil exports, and accounts for a quarter of GDP. The majority of Iran is located in the arid and semi-arid belts of the world, and the country's limited water resources have resulted in increasing restrictions on agriculture. Iran receives an average of 250 mm of rainfall per year and more than 90% of the country's water resources are used for agriculture. Agriculture's new knowledge for agricultural development and quality improvement of agricultural products requires a shift in its scientific attitude toward the concept of developing and applying advanced technologies to conserve water, energy, and the environment. With the aid of current knowledge and the application of new methods, opportunities for the production of novel food products emerge, and it is possible to leverage this scientific achievement to develop sustainable agriculture in Iran's arid and semi-arid regions.
